Half Term – Daily Posts?

So, It’s become something of a thing to try for a week of posts in half term, and this Half term will be no exception.

I’m going to try and work in a daily post with what I've been up to. now if I include the regularly scheduled Friday post (yesterday) and the Monday, that will make eleven posts in a row. Hmm, let’s see about that then shall we.

There’s plenty on the (re-organised) workbench as you can see, so this is likely the content you will see in the coming week.

I’m experimenting with airbrush work on minis to try and get these blood angels to a reasonable timeframe to paint with a decent outcome for looks; my current space wolf method being a bit onerous, and when combined with the sheer volume of unpainted puppies, it’s a tad overwhelming.

The guard are nearly all painted, so I might put some time in on them, although I do have a new unit sat here awaiting build convert and paint. hmm, not sure that was wise :)

Anyway, lets see if I can manage a week of content for you all. The trick will be making sure I have that, and enough to get me through the coming weeks as well :)

Sanguinary Priest – Stock Model and a Conversion

Really lovely model, and looks like it would be easy enough to convert and switch out weapons/ use a different head. for me however it wouldn't look different enough, so I had a dig through the bitsbox to see if I could manage to make a model that would do for another priest.

   

And this is him, he’ll actually accompany a scout squad in hopes of making them a real pain in the backfield ;)

Furioso? Furioso

Not a very inspiring post as there isnt much variation in how these go together, svae that I opted to use the frag cannon..

It is however a satisfying kit to build and goes together very well. I may need another now to build as a DC dread with talons.

The base got a little work to avoid the STC dread base look and I’ll be moving forward with paint on this chap asap. – I’m using an army painter brown primer for these red models and it seems to be helping with the warmth and coverage, – it may be all in my mind, but hey ho.

Blood Angel Scouts – Returned to ready status

So after a swim in the dettol these guys were returned to metal, then cleaned up, rebased and primed brown.

the crispness is back and I’m quite looking forward to painting these chaps

They were based on top of the ballast this time, and pinned so they have the extra height they were lacking

You can see here they compare very well now to thier plastic bretheren, even in some cases appearing taller.

Those shotgunners will round out the squad adding a little extra shooty to the mob, without compromising the assault too much.

Into the paint queue they go!

Blood Angels Tactical Marines First Paint

A little lighter than the scouts, but also a little rougher in transitions – mainly as I’m dialling in some new paints. That’s a topic that will likely get its own post, but for now these guys are good enough to play with and I've got some things to work on; for me that's win/win.

I think of this as a “classic” pose – the truth being it’s one of the only decent poses you could get out of the old RTB-01 box :) hence the beaky head, quite pleased with him, though I can see several areas for improvement on future minis, the highlights could be more coherent and the new metallic paints will take some time to develop smoother transitions with. I’m freehanding company and squad markings too so that's going to take a while to dial in.

 

Combat Squad leader, another “old” helmet and legs giving the team an air of a tac squad who have either been operational a while, or who are working on legacy armour. quite like how the back of this guy came out.

this fellow is on one of the cast bases that came out quite well, between the cheeky skull and the dried up water pool look, I’m quite pleased with that. The model is also quite decent, though a model covered with red, yellow and off white was never going to look awesome first time out; the only paints I am not quite settled with are the yellows, the coverage is traditionally poor.

So there we are, these took the better part of a week picking away at them whenever I had a spare hour, and I’m quite pleased; but a whole squad is likely to need a wee bit more time inv4ested to iron out some of the issues. anyway as always I welcome your thoughts.

oh, also, these are meant to represent 3rd squad second company blood angels. just in case anyone was interested in my choice of markings and colours.
