Astra Militarum Taurox halftrack conversion Painted!
Finished this puppy recently and though you might like to see him
I think it’s painted up quite well, and I’m liking the conversion job more now its got the balance of light and dark drawing the eye in the right places.
It’s painted desert fashion to fit in with the rest of my guard army and vehicles and uses the same decals and accent colours for unit/army group identification.
It also got my customary heavy weather following the paint and weathering principles outlined in this post and this post.
Its also magnetised and able to be a normal taurox…
or sport the gatling gun.
the top rear panel is also magnetised but the missile rack isn't painted yet. the only thing i didn't magnetise was the volley gun option as I cant see me taking them over autocannon.
so there she is, hope you like, let me know below :)

She looks grand! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteCheers Peter!
DeleteVery nice! Fantastically done. Thanks also for the weathering links! I really like this model as a half track version.
ReplyDeletethanks, and no problem on the links - military vehicles just dont look right to me clean :)
DeleteGreat look! Very gritty. The half-track look is pure win. A great paint job like this really helps the Taurox.
ReplyDeleteCheers! - I'll freely admit, if others hadnt beaten me to the all wheeled look I might never have gone for this, but sometimes i'm glad of my "has to be different" gene :)
DeleteGood converion job. And very nice paint job mate.
ReplyDeleteThankyou M'lud
DeleteVery nice! What did you use for the front wheels? I think I might like to do something similar down the line.
ReplyDeleteta mate, I used Zinge industries small military wheels - http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=109_124&product_id=140
DeleteThis is - predictably enough - absolutely superb! Bloody well done, mate.
ReplyDeleteJust out of interest, is there anywhere better on the model to put those autocannon/volleyguns? It just seems such a nonsensical place for weaponry!
- D.
Thanks mate :)
Deleteas to the guns.. yeees... but only if you only want to run it as a standard taurox, or a prime with the missile launcher.
See you can put the autocannon or volley guns either side of the turret, but then you couldn't use the battle cannon or the gatling guns..
Love the double front axle idea, and your paint job's amazing as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird that GW has the autocannons/volley guns mounted so far back, taking away from their range and limiting their target options. You'd think they would've made a small front turret or something. But then, a lot about the Taurox doesn't make sense to me, such as the abysmally low armor for a storm vehicle....
thanks!, as i say you can run just a front turret if you dont want the prime.. and if you want the prime you can still go for the rack mount missiles and a front turret..
Deletebut yeah if you want to use the turret for the big gun then you have to put the autocannon back there..
as you way tho its an assault vehicle so you'll usually be within autocannon range comfortably.
Vroom! Vroom! SQUEEEEE! Very nice :)
ReplyDeletehehe cheers Zab
DeleteGorgeous work, man! I really dig how that turned out!
ReplyDeletethanks Mord, been enjoying your thousand sons too
DeleteI'm not a fan of the model, but your conversion work and painting is really brilliant - fantastic weathering & detail.
ReplyDeletethanks Pawn, I wasnt either but damn me if it isnt growing on me.
DeleteSplendid work!
ReplyDeletecheers Phil
DeleteNo it really didnt.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but much to my chagrin I find myself quite linking this model now. I do think it looks better as a plain taurox, the prime is over-gunned - it was suggested it would make a good salamader stand in, especially if one uses the open-topped option that the parts appear to exist for wit the cannon on the front turret.
Looks amazing!
