Blood Angels Assault Squads Build

Having detected a “Need” for fast moving / Deep striking Melta I suddenly recalled that the Blood Angels still have this option for their Assault squads, making them far superior to the C:SM option of flamer of plasma pistols when it comes to tackling vehicles.

A bitzbox delves and shopping trip later, I’d built two squads, at 125 points each this is a pretty acceptable unit cost for the role.

The first squad, two meltas, Sgt with Power Sword and BP

And for the second I went with a Lightening claw.

This squad contains some components that are over fifteen years old!, they've been disassembled, stripped and repainted a good number of times and have been Grey Knights, Ultramarines, Mentor Legion and even Blood Angels originally.

It’ll get pic heavy after jump for pics of each trooper.

The Sergeants both have slightly more ornate jump packs and Laurels on their helmets – additionally they both are geared with melta bombs in case the guns don’t pop the vehicles threes a backup.

This chap has the BA melta from the new Tactical squad kit – the other 3 have metal meltas from the pack the GW sell on their direct site – though I expect these are finecast now.

oops, camera shake. just trust me, he looks cool. I wouldn't have gone with helmetless from a “common sense” point of view, plummeting from the sky with giant heat rays strapped to you I guess you'd want a helmet, but the unit would be looking a little “samey” if I didn't break up the look with at least one helmetless guy in each unit.

Beaky. got to have the beaky.

The very old assault squad pads are a little small due to scale creep over the years, but they still look okay as long as you pair them with a modest looking pad.

Sarge here has a Lightening claw borrowed from the sons of Russ and stripped of it’s heathen badges and wet dog smell.

This chap stands as a reminder that BA assault troops with special weapons only swap their BP, so they get to keep one assault weapon.

Can be a pain to get that supporting hand into place, but perseverance!

And a beaky for the second squad too.

I love how dynamic you can get the models from even such an old kit, and with bitz from more modern kitas like the BA tac and BA DC and one or two carefully shave wolfie bitz you can make some decent looking guys; I’m quite pleased with the posing on these and looking forward to getting some paint on them

  1. Love kit bashing kits. One of the best things to do! Always gets you awesome looking units.

Fast moving melta...something to keep in mind if you ever run across a super heavy...roll on the escalation warlord traits table...one prevents you from scattering within 6 inches of a super heavy...

  3. I hear you, but If I wanted a more resilient Jump pack assault squad, i'm going to go with death company for my money in the BA codex now the main reason to take a normal assault squad is for a pair of deep striking meltas, and I need to keep them as cheap as possible.

its an unfortunate side effect of GW having made them no longer available as troops.
