Ragnar Blackmane Conversion

One of the things I’ve been kindof focussed on is Getting a full, tricked out squad of Blood claws and attendants across the field and into someone’s face.

My Christmas break will see the arrival of a Storm wing, and I can already Feel a Storm eagle wending it’s way form Nottingham, so I felt it was time to make someone to lead this flying nutbag squad, Hence, Ragnar.

Fallen Princes Deathwatch Project Veteran Sergeant

Almost finished..

Well I'm sorry but that howling griffons chapter badge.. I cant paint that.. so i'm waiting on some decal paper and i'll print one up and slap it on.

Because of that he's a wee bit shiny at the moment, but i'll mattcoat him when that arrives, then maybe re-do some of the silver so that's shiny.

I put a good number of purity seals and scribbles on him, as that's part of the howling griffon fluff I believe..

ahh the suspiciously empty place where the iconography should be :)

And now... the amazing screw-on head! (go mike mignola!)

Hm, maybe I should a made a place on him or the base for the helmet.. though thinking about it, it woulda looked weird the other way round then...

and a top view so you can see the TMM work, heh. silly acronym

This project is rapidly becoming a thing...

I mean, look at the squad so far..

Sternguard Deathwatch.

Sgt: Karitas Howling Griffons Excommunicate Tratoris
Trooper: Brother Silar (Astral Claws), Combi-Plasma gun.
Trooper: Brother N'tur (Salamander), Heavy flamer. For Holy Terra.
Trooper: Minotaur, Bolter Badab War in Cambridge.
Trooper: Lamenter Lamentum
Trooper: Death Specter
Trooper: Lamenters, Flamer Cognitive Dissonance
Trooper: Into the Void
Trooper: Raptor Iron Legion
Trooper:

Only one spot left to fill.. Well, that's me for now. as soon as the decal paper arrives and the thing is on there i shall be posting this off to be part of the competition/charity auction. let me know what you think, not my best work, but I quite like the way the colours pop.. I can certainly see the attraction of a full army of these guys.

Dark Vengeance Rune Priest - Wot I did

Nothing too complicated about what I did here tbh.. most of it was scraping off icons and adding wolfy bitz..

The starting bits....

and with icons removed.. heres a tip, use plastic glue.. the thin stuff we used to call "liquid poly" to melt surfaces clean and smooth....

the wolf arm and the donor sword.. I left it as a sword instead of using an axe mainly because I liked the sword.. I did make some modifications to the hilt to make it more "celtic"

the backpack got some donor parts to wolf it up.

and once the chap was all kitbashed and assembled i set to making some fur..

Here he is in primer...

I'm fairly confident I could set this guy up for any chapter, so it seems my fears about the usefulness of the DV box may have been exaggerated...

Dark Vengeance Librarian Conversion to Rune Priest

I know, but I just had to.

I was fortunate enough to snag this guy and the chaplain form a fellow blogger, and had to have a go at converting the guy, surprisingly easy actually, and a lovely model.

I don't have a whole DV box, couldn't justify it, being two armies I just don't have, but I really liked the sculpts and wanted to do something with them.

Here he is, I do have some WiP shots, so might do a "wot i did:" post.

Tried a slightly different paint style, quicker.. you'll see why in the next few days, but I'm fairly happy. I wouldn't rate him "display standard" but he'll do for a playing piece.

Question is, have I moved him far enough away from his dark angel sculpt.. does he read as a space wolf?

Combi Plasma Conversion for Space Wolves

Sure it would work for anyone, but this one.. is for my wolves :)

As I move towards a 6th ed army, I cant help but want to try my Wolf Guard in TDA. this of course means 1 less plasma gun.. which just wont do.. so.. combi plasma.

I set about looking at the original one form the commander box, mainly because I'm really not a fan of the side-by side storm bolter approach. I know it has the Forge world endorsement now and everything, and I could make them form pintle mount storm bolters and emulate the look.. but nah, not for me.

After a little thought and some trimming I cut the boltgun and plasma pistil into the component you see above with a sharp scalpel. for once I didn't cut myself. win.

Further thought, dry fitting and trimming left the two main components looking like this. the top section of the pistol is removed so that the barrels will fit flush, the gubbins is hollowed out.

And when the pieces are put together, with wolfy bits and all, you have the above. not a bad match imo. the trick is getting the barrels back on and the magazine to fit flush, some inventive trimming is needed for that.

Here it is on a couple of models, and at the top of the article you can see it wide-by side with the GW part.

Anyway hope that helps both my fellow wolves and the soon-to -be overpowered DA players and their much-rumored "plasma special rule"

Thanks for reading.. PS.... PC is still sickly.......

Space Wolves StormTalon Conversion Painted

Quite Pleased with this recent batch of vehicles, gave them my usual space wolves formula of VMC Dark Sea Blue, followed by VMC french Mirage Blue and then VGC Wolf Grey.. followed by a Heavy Weather.

The airbrush is such a useful tool for vehicles, allowing me to easily apply the scorth marks and dirt.. not to mention how useful it is for the base layers...

Also getting more comfortable doing a NMM look on larger areas.. sure it isnt perfect, nor is it time consuming, it's a good balance that I am very happy with.

I did paint the Pilot.. Honest.. look you can almost see him :)

This is of course going in an allied force org.. all the allied space wolves will be from Bjorn Stormwolf's company for ease of identification...

There we are.. more vehicles to come in the next week or two. as a final note please bear with me for a while.. My Pc is infected with the most horrible Virus I have ever seen and so I'm posting using the annoying web interface,, I'll do my best to get back up and running asap..

Any thoughts and comment on this beat of a vehicle are as always welcome.. Thanks for reading!

Space Wolves Contemptor Dreadnought

DSC_7343

A birthday gift from my significant other, this contemptor will most often and likely be fielded as Bjorn the Fell-Handed. Hence the claw and plasma cannon. I also have designs on cooking up my own apoc formation as a bjorn-led “tac Squad of the ancients” type deal, so I can field my .. now five.. Dreads as a single apoc formation.

I know there are similar formations already extant, but they needed a “tweak” for me to fit with the wolves’ style.

Anyway, pictures follow, thanks for reading and your thoughts and comments are always welcome.

StormTalon Conversion

DSC_7345

Seems the internet is full of those, cos apparently, like me, not many people like the “stubbyness” of the original.

I used a little plasticard and putty, but mostly the original parts in the kit. All I did, was alter the stuff I didn't like.

for me, the tail was too short, so I took the tail section of the end of the fuselage and rebuilt it as an add-on to the end, rather than being above and below it. if you have one, you can see the three tail section pieces in their new position.

DSC_7346

I repositioned the weapons as the original was way too nose heavy.. the guns went back into the body more, with the carriage rebuilt and the feet moved off, away from being placed on the ball jointed gun. *ahem*

DSC_7348

The rocket pods went under the wing.. as they wouldn't be direct fire anyway I figured that they'd be on a slightly vectoring wingtip wouldn't matter..  the vehicle got a space wolf pilot and icon too. stay tuned for my thoughts on allies to see why ;)

DSC_7349

So there you have it, my take on the StormTalon I prefer the lines Ive adjusted it to here, but I’ sure there are lots of opinions out there, so please feel free to share.

While you ponder, here are some more pics.
