Elysian company command Squad

 DSC_8806

I posted these chaps ride a few weeks ago, and here is the finished squad.

The Squad’s support weapon, because really these guys should be sat somewhere safe dishing out orders and fire.

DSC_8834

The spotter/loader is magnetised, so can be removed to reflect wounding.

DSC_8836

This Squad also has a sniper.

DSC_8835

and a Technician first class, equipped with a ground scanner. mainly used to give the hvy bolter and sniper re-rolls.

DSC_8837 DSC_8838

Lovely models, and because these are resin you can really play with the poses, – all you need is a hairdryer.

DSC_8839

Commander, with a pfist. cos he wanted one, and you know, it looks cool.

DSC_8840   DSC_8843

Commander ffolks acknowledges his role, and is happy to sit in the backfield, but when he does get assaulted, he likes to be able to respond, as do his two subalterns, (yeah, the Elysian list can still use bodyguards)  and he lives by the maxim “better to have one and not need it..”

Tarantulas! For the imperial guard of course.

DSC_8799

On my journey to expanding the Elysians to 1850 and a fully feildable force on their own, I decided to ensure that I got a decent chunk of anti tank in there.

DSC_8800

What I didn't want to do though was just slap down a bunch of vendettas as lets face it, its overpowered, and not only that its just another Valk chassis.

DSC_8802

Ignoring that, then meant that I was looking for ways to kill armour from they Elysians list. I decided on three main approaches, and here is the first, lovely models, go together and paint beautifully.

DSC_8803

and in the Elysian list have the advantage of Deep Strike, so being fielded as single units, and dropped where they will be a real pain in the enemy armour’s ass.

Mud. Glorious Mud!

DSC_8778

Having picked up some mig mud, looking for a way to acheive a good effect with less faff, I thought I would share my findings.

DSC_8779

The tyres and treads of the average ork trukk are ripe for mudding.

DSC_8780

Opening the container reveals a pigmented, gravelly paste. this one is “Europe dry mud” and Large [article size. we’ll get to that.

DSC_8781

slapping it on with an old brush and working it into the crevices,

DSC_8782

followed by wiping it off the raised surfaces…

DSC_8783

and once dry…

It still needed something for me, and the large particles were distracting, though that said i did buy large. I also have a smaller tub here which I will try soon.

DSC_8784

I set to adding a layer of dust with a MIG powder

DSC_8785

And gave that a fix and wash with some thinners. you can see the results in my previous post on the Trukk.

overall it saved me mixing my own, and the results, while not outstanding largely due to the particle size, certainly are promising.

More once I find a suitable subject for the smaller particle mud.

Ork Trukk

DSC_8793

I wanted to test out soome new rust and mud products, so an Ork trukk seemed like the perfect vessel.

DSC_8794

More on the mud later, but the rust is “modelmates rust effect” and its really very good, if used correctly.

DSC_8795

I think it might be actual rust, or if not it’s very similar in that it appears to be a liquid that oxidises to a powder when applied, and if built up in several layers and used with powders, some really amazing effects can be achieved

.DSC_8797

Here you can see several rust spots,  and some surface rust.

DSC_8798

and the tailgate is in a bad way too..

Nork Deddog Conversion Painted for Drax!

I considered an alternate title for this post, something around “Furtling Drax’s Norks”, but thought better of it.

DSC_8787

this is Admiral Drax’s characterful take on Nork Deddog; it’s one of the lovely old, well sculpted Ogryn, you know the ones with actual detail on them :)

DSC_8788 DSC_8789

A wee while back when I offered to paint something for someone due to a blog event, Drax was the name out of the hat, and he offered up this conversion, I think as he had reached a bit of an impasse with the paint job. his instructions to me were along the lines of, “keep some catachan green and some dark angles green, some camo might be nice, oh and maybe a banner”

DSC_8792

hopefully that counts as mission accomplished.

DSC_8790 DSC_8791

Though I magnetised the banner in case he didn't like it.

Post 400!

So, time for some stats then?

download

400 Posts and at time of posting just shy of 370 thousand page views, with about 20k page views a month at the moment, and about six weeks from writing to post time, I might hit 400k pageviews at the same time I hit 400 posts!

Thank you all who read this, and those who repost (and link back) it keeps me going if I'm honest, as I don't play much and I don't often take my collection out of the circle of friends I play with when I get chance so this is the only place a lot of this stuff will ever see the light of day.

Its great to hear back form people on the stuff I post, and better when a tutorial I’ve written helps someone out. – that’s one thing I haven't done enough of lately and I will get back to it.

As to where I am with models-

DSC_5520_thumb[1] Imperial guard – I have probably added all I should here, though I still have a list of models as long as my arm I could add, I’ll likely never get it all on the table at once so I need to tone that down a bit .. (well maybe another tank or two. oh and I DID always want ogryn..)

coolminigreyhunter[4]

Space Wolves, I think these are next, – sort them out into coherent units under the new regime and get some progress made on the crackpile. not a lot I want to add here except maybe one of the new dreads. I may also want to rebase everything so that my entire imperial contingent has basing that matches my game boards and can be played together without the odd “it’s snowing over there, but not here” effect.

DSC_5587_thumb

Orks – have been total backburner for a while, and that’s still fine – I have a lot of imperial stuff I can play all together and I still have a playable Ork force, I even have a few unbuilt units if the urge to paint green comes over me, this is effectively retired tho.

DSC_5019[4]

Daemonhunters – I have a single unit of termies left intact and painted, and one unpainted. that's okay, I can field them if I like, and may paint (and repaint) the units but I wont be adding to this force.

I do still have the IST i built back in the day and I have a long-term plan to use them as a base for a converted Adeptus Arbites force using the tempestus rules, but that's a ways off.

I do want to work up and Inquisitorial warband given the new codex and the ability to feild one alongside my exisiting forces.

New Stuff:

I have my eyes on a knight or two, most likely a castigator, just because awesome.

I have also always liked the sisters and if they get new models or a new book that I can use in the same way, to add a detachments I may well pick them up.

I’m also continuing to work on terrain that fits the new board I have, the idea being that it will all work together. so I guess I’m building a better world.

Aside form the fortykay above, I still have some US airborne that deserve my attention and that will happen at some point too.

So there we go, state of the union. anything you particularly want to see me do first? anything you want a tutorial on? now is the time as I draw up plans :)

Cadian special Weapon Squad - flamers

DSC_8772

A standard paint job and some “left over” bits to make another field able unit.

Interesting to think that the game has changed slightly. it used to be that you would put your flamers in front and take the wounded ablative guardsmen from the back.

now you need to deploy as above, and use the screening guardsmen in front to take the fall, leaving enough room for template poking :)

DSC_8773 DSC_8774  DSC_8776 DSC_8777

They fit the board and structures well, so I’m happy :)

Forge world Turrets

DSC_8742

I’d like to thank Ebay….

DSC_8738

been after some of these for a while and wouldntcha know, a lot with two of em in!

DSC_8739

DSC_8740

Given my usual desert paint and weathering to match the IG and the desert table. I will probarbly use these with the FW elysian Tarantula stats as I think this is a discontinued mdoel, the stats arent anywhere I can find in a current edition of anything..

DSC_8741

Pretty nifty tho, and as they use chimera turrets, that gives me some options for change up the weapons if I want.
